Rustic Road 60-
County Highway K

Sad news tonight. The Plum Lake Town Board approved tentative atv/utv routes throughout Plum Lake. One of their routes is- from Sayner on N- to K/ Rustic Road all the way to Stillwaters. It also connects to K east all the way to Burnt Bridge and beyond. This is just for starters.

In addition, Jackey Postuchow, Town Chair reneged on her suggestion that she made for residents to protect their roads. She said that if all property owners on a town road agreed that they did not want atv/utv traffic on their road and signed a document stating that, that thei road  exclusions could be excluded and eventually written in to an ordinance. for Road Exclusions. Very disappointing. A lot of people worked very hard to accomplish everything Jackey Postuchow, Town Chair asked in order to protect their roads. Most folks got 100% of the signatures of the property owners on their road, but it didn’t end up meaning a thing in the end.

The funniest thing I heard at the Town Meeting was the Board boasting about how proud they were of the “democratic” election they had. The room burst out laughing and/ or moaning.

No, the entire process was broken. Any election that disenfranchises electors by creating an impossible process is just not ethical. Somehow they seem ok with that housebound and electors that only had 1 month notice and had to be elsewhere could not vote via absentee ballots..

Only 170 or (40%) out of a total of 421 electors voted for atv/ UTVs to ride the roads if Plum Lake. The Board thought that was a good showing.

I dare say that with proper notification and advance planning the vote would have attracted many more electors. It seemed to be a set up- and planned to go this way from the get go. Yes- they thought an in-person, one day vote with no absentee voting alternative - in mud season was fair. Plum Lake deserves better.
